My Trim Has Gone Blotchy. What’s Wrong And How Do I Fix It?

This normally only happens with highly textured trim where you didn’t manage to get the excess product from the “valleys” of the trim.  Once cured, those little lakes turn into a solid piece of quartz which can shatter into a white powder.

To remove, you should agitate the surface with a medium-stiff brush and a strong mix of Gtechniq W2 Universal Cleaner Concentrate.  And once removed you can reapply making sure that you remove the residue completely (you may need a longer pile microfibre for this task)

How to restore faded plastic trim?

To restore faded plastic trim, start by thoroughly cleaning the surface to remove dirt, oils, and old dressings. Once clean and dry, apply Gtechniq C4 Permanent Trim Restorer using the applicator provided. The formula bonds with the plastic at a molecular level, reviving colour and adding long-term protection against UV rays and environmental wear.

How to permanently restore black plastic trim?

Gtechniq C4 is specifically engineered to permanently restore black plastic trim. Unlike temporary silicone-based products, it forms a chemical bond with the trim’s surface, restoring faded plastics and protecting them for up to 2 years with a single application.

How long does C4 Trim Restorer last?

C4 offers durability you can rely on. When applied correctly, it can last up to 24 months, depending on driving conditions and exposure to the elements.

Is C4 suitable for all types of plastic trim?

Yes, C4 works on most exterior unpainted plastic trims, including bumpers, mirror surrounds, window seals, and door handles. It’s ideal for textured or smooth plastic surfaces commonly found on modern vehicles.

Does C4 make trim look shiny?

No, C4 restores a natural, factory-new satin finish. It’s designed to revive the original look of your trim without adding unnecessary gloss or a greasy appearance.

Can I use C4 Trim Restorer in cold or wet weather?

C4 should be applied in dry conditions, ideally above 5°C, to ensure proper bonding. Avoid rain for at least 12 hours after application for best results.

Do I need to prep the surface before using C4?

Absolutely. Proper preparation is essential. Use an all-purpose or multipurpose cleaner to remove any remaining residues. This ensures maximum durability and performance from the product.

Will C4 work on already coated or dressed trim?

No, C4 performs best on bare plastic. If your trim has been previously treated with a silicone dressing or coating, thoroughly clean and degrease it before applying C4.

Can C4 be layered for better results?

One coat is sufficient; there is no additional benefit to applying a second coat of the product.

Is C4 safe to use on rubber or painted surfaces?

C4 is formulated for plastic trim. Avoid contact with rubber seals or paintwork. If accidental contact occurs, wipe off immediately with a clean microfibre cloth.
