Keeping your bike clean and well-maintained is of the utmost importance if you want it to perform optimally. The good news is that there are several products you can turn to in order to make your life that little bit easier when cleaning your bike. With that in mind, here are our top tips for using our Ultimate Bike Care Kit to ensure that your bike rides like a dream throughout the year.
What does our kit contain?
Before we introduce you to how to use our bike care kit, it contains the following:
- 1x Bike Clean (1 litre)
- 1x Bike Clean Concentrate (500ml)
- 1x Bike Wash (250ml)
- 1x Drivetrain Degreaser (500ml)
- 1x Cermaic Quick Coat (500ml)
- 1x Bike Ceramic (15ml)
- 1x Tri-Clean (500ml)
- 1x Bike Microfibre Wash Mitt
- 1x Bike Detailing Brush
- 1x Bike Drying Towel
- 1x Bike Microfibre
Now you know what to expect in the kit, let’s take a look at how to put the items to good use.
Rinse the frame down
Your first job when cleaning your bike is to rinse the frame down with a hose pipe or pressure washer. Just make sure the water you use isn’t too highly pressured, or you could potentially damage your bearings. You can then spray the bike with our Bike Clean, which is incredibly effective at removing grime. If the bike is exceptionally grotty, you could use the Bike Wash and Wash mitt, which will offer a much deeper clean. Standard washing-up liquid doesn’t work anywhere near as well as all the bike products have been engineered to break down mud and grime where whereas washing-up liquid is more of a degreaser and contains harsh chemicals, so don’t be tempted to substitute products! It is important to note not to use any hard scrubbing brushes as these can degrade the finish, leaving it scratched and looking dull.
Use the degreaser
Our Bike Care Kit contains 500ml of Drivetrain Degreaser, which is the next product you should turn to when you’ve given your bike an initial clean. You should spray the derailleurs and chain with the degreasing agent and give them a good scrub with the Bike Detailing Brush. Make sure you give the chain a thorough clean with the degreaser before moving on to the cassette and chainrings.
Rinse and dry the frame
It’s now time to rinse the frame for a second time, removing all cleaners and suds that have accumulated during the cleaning process. Again, if you use a hose for rinsing the frame, make sure the pressure isn’t too high. Once you’ve rinsed the frame, grab the drying towel and go over the entire frame, making sure that you have completely dried all surfaces. Once dry, apply the Bike Ceramic to provide your frame with the ultimate durability. This is the quickest way to deliver instant durable protection. Last but certainly not least, grab an old rag or old microfibre and dry the chain carefully. You can then apply a chain lube to the chain and pivot points on the derailleurs, and your bike should be as good as new!
Durable long-lasting protection
For the Ultimate protection, Gtechniq recommends applying Bike Ceramic to the frame. This product has been designed to stop dirt, mud and grime from sticking to the surface, making ongoing cleaning and maintenance a breeze. The best part is that once applied, it provides a dirt and water-repellent barrier for up to 2 years!
